Summer Science Series

I'm very honoured to organise and take part in the Summer Series that took place during August. The preparation process was difficult but nevertheless fulfilling. It's heartwarming to see so many helpers not only make friends with the kids, but also have a fun time with other volunteers too, which is exactly what we hope to achieve when we come up with these events in the first place. Thank you to all the helpers and kids for such a wonderful experience and stay tuned for our upcoming events ;>

After joining the Summer Series, I have had a lot of fun with the kids, teaching them how to do homework and playing games with them.  I think it is a very meaningful program as I can use my free time to help children.  It feels rewarding when the kids understand new concepts.  The experiments were also fun, and the kids seemed to enjoy the experiments as well.  I am very thankful for the opportunity to volunteer at E-Concept.

       若我要以一句話去概括，我本次參與E-Concept夏日義工活動的心得，那將會是「贈人玫瑰，手留餘香」。

       我負責的那組學生當中，有一個靦腆而內向的小女孩。她一來到自己的座位，便迅速地把從家裡帶來的作業放到桌上，而後就握著筆，一言不發地低頭寫了好久的作業。在她寫作業的過程中，我一邊檢查她的答案，一邊與她攀談。與她的對話中得知，她的家長似乎對她十分嚴厲，在四年級的時候就已經要求她預習好初中的英語文法。我望著她因為因緊張而互相摩擦的手指，不禁聯想至以前的自己。

       我想起往時的我也會因為害怕家長的責備，而選擇日復一日地處理不屬於那個年紀的課業，在成長的迷茫中逐漸丟失自己的童年，與眼前的小女孩何其相似？

       我繼續與她交談，嘗試讓她說出內心的想法。

       她輕輕地對我說「我很累，每天都需要做很久的作業，我的父母卻還是一直對我不滿意⋯⋯」

       我回應道「讀書的確是通往世俗的成功最容易的一條捷徑。父母也是本著為你好的心，而為你佈置這些作業的。你不需要遷怒於父母，而應該嘗試與父母溝通，勇敢向他們抒發你心底的想法。」她聽見我的回答後，眼裡像是泛起了光，點了點頭。

       在那之後，我們在自由活動時間中一邊玩桌上遊戲，一邊如朋友般談笑風生地聊天。在歡聲笑語中，時間咻的一聲便過去了，很快就到了活動結束的時刻。她在離開中心前，要求與我擁抱，並在一張貼紙上寫上自己的名字，叮囑我不許忘記她。

       在和她擁抱的片刻中，我想，我對她說的那段話語是我送出的玫瑰，而這個溫暖的擁抱便是久久留香的氣味。那股氣味不但使當時的我內心變得更柔軟，更穿梭時空，救贖了童年的自己。義工活動的意義不該就是這樣嗎？傳遞溫暖與無名的愛意至社會的每個角落，如奧運火炬般一代傳一代，愛心的火焰就永不熄滅。
